Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals developing skills as emerging leaders and managers in a range of enterprise and industry contexts.

As well as assuming responsibility for their own performance, individuals at this level provide leadership, guidance and support to others. They also have some responsibility for organising and monitoring the output of their team.

They apply solutions to a defined range of predictable and unpredictable problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no academic entry requirements. This qualification is suited for those with management roles supervising small teams and as a foundation course for the BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management.

How is the course delivered?

This course is run face-to-face in a real training environment. You will have an actual teacher and other students in the training setting. You will have 12 months to complete the course, however, you may be able to complete the course sooner. If you are currently working the course may be delivered in the workplace with a combination of flexible training and online delivery.

What are the units am I required to complete?

You need to complete 12 units for BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management qualification, four core and seven electives.
All course material is provided in the price, including a USB and folder with all the training and assessment resources. The four core units of the course are:

  • BSBLDR411 Demonstrate leadership in the workplace
  • BBLDR413 Lead effective workplace relationships
  • BSBOPS402 Coordinate business operational plans
  • BSBXCM401 Apply communication strategies in the workplace
  • BSBXTW401 Lead and facilitate a team

Smart and Skilled

This course is government subsidised and you maybe eligible, if you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Permanent Resident, live or work in NSW, are over 15 and no longer at school, you may be eligible under Smart and Skilled, meaning the course is subsidised by the NSW Government.

How much is the course?

The BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management qualification is available under the NSW Government’s Smart and Skilled funding. Prices depend on whether it is your first or subsequent qualification or if you are eligible for a concession fee or exemption. How interactive and practical is the course?

At NTM this course is practical, interactive and with sufficient time to complete all your assessments. This course includes interesting readings and practical assessment work to be completed at home or at work. To assist you in becoming a workplace trainer, you will deliver a number of training sessions as part of the course, including one-to-one and group training. There will also be written assessments, projects and case studies related to work-based training and assessment activities.

Pathways to further study and university

After successfully completing the BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management, graduates have several pathways options:

  1. Entry into BSB51918 Diploma of Leadership and Management.
  2. Entry into BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
  3. Entry into TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

Depending on the elective chosen you may receive some credit towards another qualification, contact us for more information regarding Recognition of Prior (RPL) learning.

Licensing and regulatory information

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification. You may be eligible for membership with a number of industry bodies, including the Australian Institute of Management.
